Vastly experienced German goalkeeper signed from Borussia Dortmund in July 2003. Eccentric, charismatic and highly gifted custodian who has played for arch rivals Dortmund and Schalke either side of short-lived spell at AC Milan in 1998. A mainstay in the German squad, his medal haul includes UEFA Cup and Bundesliga honours. He made his name in Schalke's 1997 penalty-shoot out win over Internazionale and has one career goal to his name, for Schalke against Dortmund a month later.
