Luis Figo is one of the most recognisable faces in football. To quote the late Inter president Giacinto Facchetti, the Portuguese star is "a player who has written the most important pages of European and world football in recent years". Figo began his career at Sporting Lisbon and made his name as part of the 'golden generation' of Portuguese youngsters who won World U16 and U20 titles in 1989 and 1990. In 1995 he moved to Spain and in a five-year spell at Barcelona won a string of trophies, including two league titles and a European Cup Winners' Cup. More success followed at Real Madrid, where in another five-year stint Figo added two more league titles and a Champions League. FIFA World Player of the Year in 2001, Figo is Portugal's most-capped player with well over a century of appearances for his country.
