PROFILE

Former Leeds United favourite who left Elland Road to join Manchester United in May 2004. Boasts great strength and stands up unflinchingly against the Premier League's most formidable defenders, and has latterly been used by United boss Sir Alex Ferguson in central midfield after Roy Keane's departure. Smith scored with his first touch in senior football in front of the Anfield Kop as an 18-year-old. He blossomed alongside Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and then Mark Viduka, emerging as one of Leeds' best talents for many years. Has also proved his international credentials by scoring for England
