A fleet-footed Norwegian international who packs a fearsome shot, Riise joined from Monaco for ý4million in July 2001 and is an established force on the left flank. His first goal came against Bayern Munich to help Liverpool win the Super Cup. A supreme athlete, Riise is usually deployed as a left-back but is also effective in midfield.
