PROFILE
The 2004 European Footballer of the Year joined Chelsea from AC Milan for a club-record fee in May 2006. The prolific striker is quick, two-footed and deadly from close range, though he has scored his fair share of spectacular goals throughout his career. Netted 173 times during his seven years in Italy, the second most in Milan's history, and became the Champions League's all-time leading goalscorer in April 2006. Converted the winning penalty as the Rossoneri beat Juventus in a shoot-out to win the Champions League in 2004, but missed from the spot to hand Liverpool European glory the following year. Also won the Scudetto, the European Super Cup and the Italian Cup during his spell with Milan. The Ukraine captain shot to prominence at Dynamo Kiev and joined Milan for £18million in July 1999, three months after helping his hometown club reach the semi-finals of the Champions League.
