PROFILE
Elegant England midfielder who joined United in a deal worth up to £18.6million in July 2006. Came through the ranks at West Ham United before moving to Tottenham Hotspur in August 2004. Has fantastic vision and passing ability. Starred in the Hammers' FA Youth Cup-winning side before making his Premier League debut against Bradford City in August 1999. Given his senior England debut against Mexico in May 2001 and was named in the squad for the 2006 World Cup after an excellent season at White Hart Lane.
